At the age of 13, Billy received a weight set from his father to help him gain strength for wrestling. He has not stopped since. Having a family and full-time job, Billy utilizes his free time to work out, he has found it to be something he can do to keep his body young and help keep him in shape, "I need my body to hold up, working for at least 22 more years to get the kids all through school," says Billy.

Billy says his favorite thing about Lacon Fitness and Tan is the people, "not only the people who work here but also the people who work out here. I have met a lot of people since I started". Since starting at Lacon Fitness and Tan, Billy has gained several physical and mental benefits from working out, “Physically, my body doesn’t hurt as much and I have more energy. Mentally, it’s where I have my time to think about whatever, my time to unwind is when I walk.” When he isn’t at the gym, Billy can be found working in his yard or on his house, coaching or attending his kid's events. Looking ahead Billy stated, “I would like to stay under 175 lbs. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. It is always up and down, I would like it to stay level.” Billy's advice to others is not to stop, It took him almost two years to reach his goals. Go even when you can find reasons not to go. Lacon Fitness and Tan: How long have you been working out and how did you get into it?
Billy: I have been working out on and off since I was 13, so 33 years ago. My dad bought me a weight set to get stronger for wrestling.
LFT: Were there any reservations about getting started? Anything that held you back?
LFT: What are some of the benefits both physically and mentally that you gained since working out?
Billy: Physically, my body doesn’t hurt as much. I have more energy, even when I don’t think I do. Mentally, it’s where I have my time to think about whatever, my time to unwind when I walk.
LFT: Cardio vs. Strength which is your favorite?
Billy: Strength. No one says, “Hey, have you been doing cardio?!”
LFT: What is your favorite exercise?
Billy: Preacher curls.
LFT: What is your least favorite exercise?
LFT: When you aren’t working or at the gym, what do you like to do for fun?
Billy: Work in my yard or on my house, coach, or attend my kid's events.
LFT: How do you balance work and working out?
Billy: You have to fit working out in your schedule, even if you have to put it in between things.

LFT: You have four kids and work full time, how do you manage to fit your workouts into your schedule?

LFT: You can often be found at the gym, what keeps you from getting bored?
Billy: This is my fun time because it's the one thing I do that's for me.
LFT: What is your favorite thing about Lacon Fitness and Tan?

LFT: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Billy: I’m on the Village Board in Sparland and attend Calvary Bible Church, where I help with games at Awana on Sunday night.
LFT: What is your favorite “cheat food”?
Billy: Ice cream with butterscotch topping.
LFT: How do you feel about your fitness journey ahead? Any goals that you would still like to achieve?
Billy: I would like to stay under 175 lbs. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. It is always up and down, I would like it to stay level.
