Chelsea Stewart - August Member of the Month

Meet Chelsea Stewart. She has been pushing herself and getting out of her comfort zone ever since she rejoined the gym. Then she upped her workouts even more when she started working with a personal trainer. She has even admitted that she is starting to like running, something she never thought she would say. What has fueled Chelsea’s drive? Well, Chelsea spent months preparing for her big day twice this year. Her original wedding date was April 25 but was postponed until July 11 due to the Coronavirus. Chelsea mentioned, “ I like to have something to work towards. This time it has been my wedding and after the wedding it will be our Honeymoon in January. I also love the way exercising makes me feel, I never regret a workout. I only regret not going”.

Amanda, owner of Lacon Fitness and Tan and Chelsea’s personal trainer, said that through this all Chelsea has shown improvements. “The gym was unable to provide personal training for two months but since Chelsea stayed active during that time she was able to pick up where she left off. Each week she continues to get better. This girl has grit and never backs down from a challenge”.

Chelsea has seen both physical and mental benefits from working out. “I am learning to love my body for what it can do. I never appreciated how far I can push my body before now. I absolutely HATE running, but after working with Amanda; learning form and really pushing to go farther and faster I can actually say I like running now. I have always been so critical of my shape, but now I am feeling strong and learning to love that.” says Chelsea.

Like many, Chelsea had some reservations about working out. Chelsea explained, “Getting started and staying consistent is always the biggest challenge. Before starting personal training I felt like I didn't really know what I was doing. I would do a little cardio and maybe try machines, but I was too timid to go beyond that. I never knew how many reps to do or where to start with strength training.” Now Chelsea feels comfortable in the gym and her progress shows how much she has learned about working out this year. Chelsea has more fitness goals ahead, such as being able to do an unassisted pull-up and running in the 2021 St. Jude Run. Her advice to others is “If you are like me and don't really feel like you know what to do at the gym or are not seeing results from at home workouts/your current routine try personal training. Even if it's just for 1 month. You will learn what to do, proper form, how to push yourself, and move past your inhibitions”.

Great job Chelsea! We can’t wait to see what your future brings!

Lacon Fitness and Tan: How long have you been working out and how did you get into it?

Chelsea: I have been going to the gym for a few years now on and off. Before moving to Lacon I went to Pearce. This year though has probably been the most consistent I have been since joining LFT.

LFT: Were there any reservations about getting started? Anything that held you back?

Chelsea: Getting started and staying consistent is always the biggest challenge. Before starting personal training I felt like I didn't really know what I was doing. I would do a little cardio and maybe try machines, but I was too timid to go beyond that. I never knew how many reps to do or where to start with strength training.

LFT: What are some of the benefits both physically and mentally that you gained since working out?

Chelsea: I am learning to love my body for what it can do. I never appreciated how far I can push my body before now. I absolutely HATE running, but after working with Amanda; learning form and really pushing to go farther and faster I can actually say I like running now. I have always been so critical of my shape, but now I am feeling strong and learning to love that.

LFT: Cardio vs. Strength which is your favorite?

Chelsea: This is hard, I love a good sweat from cardio, but I think I like strength more now. I like seeing progress the more reps / weight I can do.

LFT: What is your favorite exercise?

Chelsea: Renegade row

LFT: What is your least favorite exercise?

Chelsea: I would normally say running, but now I think it's pull ups....mainly because I can't do them yet without a band.

LFT: When you aren’t working or at the gym, what do you like to do for fun?

Chelsea: I grew up riding horses so I always love to ride whenever possible. My Fiance and I also love to take our boat out a lot with our dog, Beau.

LFT: How do you balance work, planning a wedding, and working out?

Chelsea: Well I am a program manager so balancing a lot of important things is just what I do. I love to be busy and working out is a stress reliever for me.

LFT: What has motivated you to stick with your exercise routine for as long as you have?

Chelsea: I like to have something to work towards. This time it has been my wedding and after the wedding will be our Honeymoon is January. I also love the way exercising makes me feel, I never regret a workout. I only regret not going.

LFT: How do you find the internal strength to push yourself?

Chelsea: I want to improve and I know if it's not hard I'm not going to see change.

LFT: Do you prefer morning or evening workouts and why?

Chelsea: Mornings for sure! best way to start the day!

LFT: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Chelsea: Hmm that is hard. People that don't know me are usually surprised that I deer hunt with my dad every year and love it!

LFT: What is your favorite “cheat food”?

Chelsea: Chinese food

LFT: How do you feel about your fitness journey ahead? Any goals that you would still like to achieve?

Chelsea: I want to run for St Jude next year and do a pull up without a band.

LFT: What advice do you have for other gym members?

Chelsea: If you are like me and don't really feel like you know what to do at the gym or are not seeing results from at home workouts / your current routine try personal training. Even if it's just for 1 month. You will learn what to do, proper form, how to push yourself, and move past your inhibitions.
