Amanda Barnett

Owner

Amanda Barnett

Owner

Amanda is the co-owner of Lacon Fitness and Tan and has a degree from Illinois State University in Exercise Science. She has been in the fitness industry for over 17 years. Amanda started as a group fitness instructor in high school and college, and then went on to become a personal trainer and gym manager before becoming co-owners of Lacon Fitness and Tan in 2008 with her husband, Cliff. She loves personal training because "watching people reach their goals is an amazing privilege. Seeing people accomplish something they didn't think they could do shows them they are capable of more than they thought inside and outside of the gym. I truly believe that exercise makes you feel good physically and mentally, which directly impacts all areas of your life for the better".
Amanda lives at home with her husband Cliff, their three spunky kids, two cats, and two Australian Shepherds. When she isn't working, she is usually researching something work-related, but when she isn't doing that, she loves spending time with her family and working out with her friends. She looks forward to building lifelong friendships with everyone she meets at LFT. One day when her kids are grown, she hopes to spend the winters somewhere warm in a tiny house (but first she as to get her husband on board with the idea).

Caleb Wampler

Trainer

Caleb Wampler is certified in personal training through Expert Rating, as well as certified in fire training through the Illinois Fire Service Institute. His athletic background started at a young age playing baseball, basketball and soccer throughout school. He came to be a personal trainer because one morning, Amanda [owner of Lacon Fitness and Tan] knew he would make a great trainer and asked if he would be interested in personal training. After Caleb went to his wife about the thought of personal training, she encouraged him to seriously think about it. He decided to go ahead and do it, Caleb says, “I got tons of support from my wife, Amanda, the legendary Diane Wells (a former LFT Trainer) and members of the gym.”

Caleb specializes in strength training. His passion lies in helping people reach their goals.” He says, “It is very rewarding to watch someone who has been putting hard work in look in the mirror and like what they see or step on a scale and be encouraged instead of depressed. I love working at LFT with the staff and members because I remember being the person that made excuses and believed I couldn't do it. When you walk into LFT it is always a positive atmosphere.” He enjoys training members of LFT because he can learn just as much from them, as they learn from him. Caleb includes, “They are all very hard workers and are all-around good people. LFT is the best place I have worked, Amanda has created a culture here that we are LFT family where you can come workout and feel safe happy and positive and it shows in our members!” When Caleb isn’t training he likes traveling with his family and has recently taken up the hobby of metal detecting. Caleb has a humble nature and great sense of humor which adds to him being a great trainer.

Gessi has been a PTA for 6 years and has been a personal trainer just shy of a year now. Gessi has been athletic overtime starting in high school being active in volleyball, track, and cheer. Once she graduated she focused on weight training throughout her time at Illinois Central College. However, once she began school at Illinois State University her fitness plans and goals were forgotten. Gessi mentions, “It took a long time to get back on track. Once I went back to school to become a PTA, it was only then I decided to focus on my health again. I decided that I did not want to be hypocritical and force patients to become stronger and increase mobility, while I did nothing for myself.” Bouncing back and forth between a fitness plan before joining LFT Gessi completed a body shaping program by joining a 10-week challenge. After participating a third time she had lost weight, was toned and felt better overall winning her the award of best body transformation. Shortly after, Gessi joined LFT to maintain and increase her fitness level.

Gessi was approached by Amanda [owner of Lacon Fitness and Tan] who asked if Gessi would be interested in becoming a certified personal trainer. Gessi says, “Since that is basically my profession, I agreed and once I was certified, I then began working with clients and instructing classes. I have never looked back!” Gessi specializes in functional training, kickboxing, balance training, group, and individual training as well as disease management and recovery. Gessi does great work as a personal trainer as she is passionate about assisting everyone in health and well-being. She says, “I have struggled with my weight in my adult years and I know what works and what does not! It is simple but complicated at the same time. Everyone needs some motivation or drive to continue their fitness journey, including me. When I have a trainee state they have hit their goal, I too feel accomplished about their success.”
